3 years ago, I was very much in every way, a Chavacano.
Now, I'm very much a kagay-anon as I had been immersed into the culture of this city and I have learned to love every bit of it.
Here are the differences that i encountered:
1. In Zambo, my classmates would have to be invited and sometimes even forced for them to eat some of my recess snack because its proper manners to share when someone else isn't eating. In CDO, my classmates, upon sensing the presence of food, will announce to the whole class and everyone will lunge at your food and if you're passive about it, you'll be left with crumbs.
2. In Zambo, you just can't effing go on night-outs because of the terrorist activities. In CDO, it's safe to be a la Dave Atell in going out and about the city at night.
3. In Zambo, everyone's a foodie. Food is something like an art and we sometimes get into heated debates about it especially on whether or not the resto has a real Patissiere. In CDO, as long as its Starbucks, Krispy Kreme, any pastry shop with food that has "blueberry" attached to its name, no matter how tonsilitis-inducing it is and how ordinary the coffee tastes, is good. Mcdonald's is popular as well. Maybe Kagay-anons appreciate foreign culture much.
4. In Zambo, everyone's a Fiesta addict. We go fiesta-hopping during fiesta days. The ateneo fiesta (known more as the AtFest) is in Zamboanga. Fiestas follow only one rule: everyone's welcome. In CDO, you have to be invited before you go to somebody's fiesta gathering.
5. In Zambo, you rarely find taxis. Instead, you get to ride tricycles. Which still functions as much as a taxi but isn't metered and is overpriced for the shaky, unair-conditioned ride. In CDO, taxis are big time business. Altis anyone?
6. In Zambo, Seafood is fresh and cheap. So much that it's worth paying the fish vendor to deliver the frozen Seafood to a bus station and have it delivered to CDO. In CDO, the Seafood isn't only expensive but usually there are no supersized shrimps known as Locon and the cheapest way to eat Squid is Takoyaki.
7. In Zambo, Malls are crappy. In CDO, we have LimKetkai which was stated to be the only world-class mall in Mindanao. Cool.
8. In Zambo, the surrounding mountains are effing leech-infested. In CDO, it's safe to go mountaineering with board shorts.
9. In Zambo, almost everyone is into some kind of martial art. I can even call myself a converted geek. I went from bookish kid in prep to a Jiu-jitsu 2nd degree black belt in 7 years. In CDO, if I spent my GS days here, reklamador.tk would have been nerdysh*t.tk hahahaha
10. In Zambo, the girls are very friendly. In CDO, being spotted with a girl is automatically concluded as romantic dating and if you picked something from the ground in front of a girl who exposes cleavage, you will be branded as pervert. Trust me, it sucks.
I'll continue with this blog as soon as I remember other differences between the culture of the two cities.

ad3, you really have lots of free time right? u got ur viral violin video, this blog, ur scout sh*t in melbourne, tell me, y dont you have time to stop chickening out of bjj and pucker up to my challenge?! Let's get it on for crying out loud.
i'm not chickening out. you know it's been 2 years since i set foot on the mat. As for the claim to be the p4p, its not my problem. Why don't you just get into a tourney, win underweight and get yourself to be called as the deserving p4p instead of wasting your time calling me out of retirement.
no matter who i beat, i won't be called the p4p unless i beat you. You're the reason why i'm not getting the respect i deserve.
If only you didn't beat carlos. If only it was a draw, I would have been p4p by now.
if you're serious about this thing, beat carlos decisively. Call him out of retirement. If it took a lot on my part to beat him and it only takes you a few minutes then that means you're the p4p.
'nuff said
