I am always a Playstation guy. When I was in Grade 1, i was given my first console. A playstation. I never had a NES, an SNES, a Dreamcast or other much previously released consoles. Now I have a PS2, I didnt upgrade to the ps3 because of these reasons (according to increasing levels of significance).
10. The PS2 is still alive and on the run because the ps3 is such a cash hole.
9. A ps2 slim-type is the 2nd smallest Playstation console (second to psp) so I can easily go to a friend's house and play there.
8. The ps2 comes with a bag so I can just take it anywhere I want.
7. The PS2 Slim has the largest game library of any console. That's because it just doesnt have ps2 games in its library. It includes ALL PS1 games too (to play ps1 games, insert the ps1 cd then double reset).
6. The PS2 is not 100 percent emulated. most people rather buy a ps2 than to bother figuring out a way to emulate it.
5. The PS3's price is no joke.
4. The ps3 has limited backward compatibility to the ps2 and ps1.
3. Blu-ray's resolution and is not too far from usual resolution.
2. Graphics-wise, the latest ps2 games look pretty much like the ps3 games now to me.
1. PS3 games cost 3000 pesos at least. That's equal to 60 ps1 games or 30 ps2 games.
I'm not into portable gaming either since not everyone has PSPs so i cant play multiplayer with them. PS3 and xbox 360 rental gaming stations are great options just for the experience of playing the latest consoles. For the ultimate gaming console to date, just stick to your good 'ol ps2 and start collecting ps1 and ps2 games.
So the verdict is HOLD. Or splurge on a PSP.
For the ultimate gaming console to date, just stick to your good 'ol ps2 and start collecting ps1 and ps2 games (how? the best way is to borrow ps2 and ps1 games from people and saving them on a portable hard drive) or just buy them and store them in a cool, dry place. hahahaha.
