From doubting to believing: Essay contest win

Although it was a measly 2nd place for other people, to the people who know me well, my very jaw dropping, shocking, heart-attack inducing essay writing win was a miracle. Well, don't believe the hype. It wasn't handwritten. After the on-the-spot contest, we take home our manuscript and type it. That's what we e-mail (in verbatim) to the contest judges.

So what's the hype about then? Maybe the 80 US dollars cash prize. Maybe it was because I came fresh from winning an extemporaneous contest. But truly, it was because I finally proved people wrong. How? easy. People think I'm lying every single time I tell them that I don't get into the school publication because the application process is handwritten. People think I'm implying that, penmanship aside, I'm a good writer worthy to have his work published. But really, I'm a good writer whose work is worthy to be published (that's one of the reasons why I put up this blog). But after what they just saw, (the School Publication people I know garnered consolation prizes)they go from doubting to believing.

Try this experiment for yourself. Join stuff you've never joined. Play games you've never played. For the things people think you're incapable of doing, do them and prove them wrong. It works like this: we are all human (well most who can read this blog are) humans who have the same appendages, relatively intelligent in comparison to animals, and, we are usually born normal in everything. So what makes you different from me? what makes us different from kobe bryant, gilbert arenas, manny pacquiao and mayweather? One thing: our belief. Because talent only comes out when you believe in them.

Look at michael jordan, he wasn't even good enough for his High School Basketball team. But when he believed in himself, that's where his talent comes in. Look at Gilbert Arenas, he wears Zero because in high school and college he was a bench-warmer (since Arizona had an all-star team) but he just practiced and practiced. Most of all he believed.

THE ONLY WAY TALENT IS EVER GOING TO PREVAIL IS WHEN YOU BELIEVE IN THEM.
